Where it started.

Umbral started in 2022 as a small side project — a piece of software written for a family member. Nothing commercial, nothing planned. Just a problem that needed solving and a willingness to figure out how. From there it kept growing, one tool at a time, as more problems became obvious and the skills to address them caught up.

Everything here is self-taught. Growing up around IT means watching the industry change in real time — desktops to cloud, scripts to AI — and developing an honest appreciation for both what automation does well and what it still gets wrong. The tools that actually stick are the ones designed with the person using them in mind, not just the process they're automating.
